What changes once you connect it

Without the connector, Claude answers from memory, which ends at its training cutoff date and covers only a fraction of Czech legislation. With the connector, Claude automatically calls a search on the Europaius corpus for every legal question: it finds the relevant provisions, retrieves their exact wording, looks up case law from the Czech Supreme Court, Supreme Administrative Court and Constitutional Court, and includes a link to the full text in its answer.

In practice, this means you can ask questions the way you would ask a colleague: "What is the notice period for an open-ended residential lease, and how does the Supreme Court view it?" Claude will look up Section 2231 of the Czech Civil Code, display its text, and add the decisions that interpret that provision. You can then check the source with a single click.

What Claude can do with the connector

• Search legislation by topic or by section number, including earlier versions held in the corpus.
• Retrieve the exact wording of a section and quote it verbatim, not approximately.
• Look up case law on a topic, complete with case number, court, date and link.
• Show citation links: which provisions refer to a given section, and what that section itself cites.
• Compare rules across EU countries, for example termination of employment in the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria.
• Explain a provision clearly using a ready-made commentary generated purely from the text of the legislation.

How the connection works technically

Claude supports so-called custom connectors based on the MCP (Model Context Protocol) standard. Europaius runs a public MCP server at https://mcp.europaius.com/mcp. Once you add this address in the settings, Claude redirects you to the Europaius sign-in page, where you enter your email and type in a one-time code. From that point on, Claude holds an access token valid for seven days, which renews itself automatically.

Nothing needs to be installed - no software on your computer, no file uploads. The connection works in Claude on the web, in the desktop app and on mobile, because the connector is tied to your account, not to a specific device. For details on security, see our guide MCP Connector Security.

How to phrase your questions for best results

Claude will use the connector automatically once it recognises a legal question. It helps to mention the country and, if relevant, the area of law in your query: "under Czech law", "in employment law". If you want explicit verification, write "verify this in Europaius and cite the provisions". When researching case law, it's worth specifying which court you're interested in and for what period.

Good practice is to let Claude search and summarise first, then ask follow-up questions about individual decisions, and finally request a structured output: a list of provisions, a list of decisions, and arguments for and against. Each point should include a link that you can open yourself.

Where the limits lie

The connector supplies the sources; legal judgment remains yours. Claude can cite a provision correctly and still apply it incorrectly to your case, especially if you don't give it the complete facts. The corpus contains the complete body of Czech legislation and more than 980,000 decisions from Czech courts; coverage of other countries varies and is continually growing. You can request an overview using the list_states tool, or simply ask Claude what sources it has available for a given country.
