AmendmentsLeasuithe SAORSTÁT EIREANN STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS. 1935. No. 31. RELIEF OF THE POOR (TRAINED NURSES) REGULATIONS, 1935. DEPARTMENT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC HEALTH. WHEREAS by an order of the Local Government Board for Ireland (in this Order referred to as "the regulations of 1901"), dated the 5th day of July, 1901, and made in exercise of the powers then vested in the said Board by the Poor Relief (Ireland) Acts and the enactments amending the same, rules and regulations were made with respect to the meetings and proceedings of Boards of Guardians, and in particular with regard to the nursing of the sick: AND WHEREAS by an Order of the Minister for Local Government entitled the County Boards of Health (General Regulations) Order, 1924. (in this Order referred to as "the regulations of 1924") made in pursuance of the said Poor Relief (Ireland) Acts, and the enactments amending the same, of the Local Government (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1923 , and of every County Scheme made in pursuance of the said last-mentioned Act, rules and regulations were made with respect to the meetings and proceeding's of county boards of health, the appointment and duties of officers and the government and management of county institutions: AND WHEREAS in the regulations of 1901, and the regulations of 1924, qualifications were prescribed for trained nurses for the purposes of the said regulations and also for the purposes of sub-paragraph (

(2)of section 58 of the Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1898: AND WHEREAS all the powers aforesaid of the Local Government Board for Ireland and the Minister for Local Government are now vested in the Minister for Local Government and Public Health: AND WHEREAS it is considered expedient that in exercise of the said powers and in pursuance of the Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1898, the qualifications prescribed for trained nurses for the purposes aforesaid should be amended in the manner hereinafter appearing: NOW THEREFORE, the Minister for Local Government and Public Health in exercise of the powers so vested in him hereby orders as follows, that is to say:— 1. This Order may be cited as the Relief of the Poor (Trained Nurses) Regulations, 1935. 2. The Interpretation Act, 1923 , applies for the interpretation of these regulations in the same manner in which it applies for the interpretation of an Act of the Oireachtas. 3. For the purposes of sub-paragraph (
  1. ii)of paragraph (
  2. a)of sub-section 2 of section 58 of the Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1898, the prescribed qualifications of a trained nurse shall be that either:— (
  3. a)the name of such nurse has been after the 31st day of July, 1925, registered as a result of an examination in the general part of the Register of Nurses kept by the General Nursing Council, and continues to be so registered, or (
  4. b)such nurse has before the 31st day of July, 1925, resided for a period of not less than two years in a general clinical or other hospital recognised for this purpose by the Minister for Local Government and Public Health and has before the said 31st day of July, 1925, obtained from the authorities of such hospital as a result of an examination a certificate of proficiency in nursing. 4. Article 3 of the Regulations of 1901, shall cease to have effect. 5. The expression "Trained Nurse" in the Regulations of 1901 and in the Regulations of 1924 shall mean a nurse who possesses the qualifications prescribed by Article 3 of these regulations, and the Regulations of 1901, and the Regulations of 1924 shall be amended accordingly.
