AmendmentsLeasuithe STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS. 1937. No. 291. WIDOWS' AND ORPHANS' PENSIONS (FULL-TIME INSTRUCTION) REGULATIONS, 1937. The Minister for Local Government and Public Health in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section 2 of the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Act, 1935 , as amended by Section 3 of the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Act, 1937 , does by this, his Order, make the following Regulations :— 1. These Regulations may be cited for all purposes as the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions (Full-time Instruction) Regulations, 1937. 2. The Interpretation Act of 1923 shall apply to the interpretation of these Regulations in like manner as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of the Oireachtas. 3. A child shall be deemed to be under full-time instruction in a day school during the following periods, that is to say, (
  4. i)during the period between the day before the date on which such child attains the age of 14 years and the first Friday in the month of January, April, July or October as the case may be next occurring after such day ; (
  5. ii)during any period during which such child would have been under such instruction but for the occurrence of any of the following events :— (
  6. a)the temporary closing of the school which the child normally attends; (
  7. b)absence from school of the child authorised by the responsible school authority, by reason of contact with infectious disease; (
  8. c)the temporary suspension of the ordinary means of transport of the child to school where alternative means or reaching school are not reasonably available ; (
  9. d)absence from school on not more than one occasion in any calendar year owing to the removal of the child from one school to another, so, however, that any such absence after the first four weeks shall not be deemed to be a period of full-time instruction ; (
  10. e)absence from school on not more than two occasions in any calendar year owing to illness occurring at, or any absence from school owing to death at, the home of the child, or in the case of a child residing with a relative, at the home of such relative, so, however, that any such absence after the first four weeks on each such occasion shall not be deemed to be a period of full-time instruction ; 4. A child who is, or is deemed in accordance with these Regulations to be under full-time instruction in a day school, immediately prior to the commencement of a period of school holidays which are recognised by the responsible authority of such school shall be deemed to continue under full-time instruction in a day school, during such holidays.
