ONIONS (MAXIMUM PRICES) ORDER, 1947. I, SEÁN F. LEMASS, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Article 31 of the Emergency Powers Order, 1939 (S. R. & O. No. 224 of 1939), as amended by the Emergency Powers (No. 173) Order, 1942 (S. R. & O. No. 166 of 1942) (which Orders are continued in force by the Supplies and Services (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1946 (No. 22 of 1946)) and of every and any other power me in this behalf enabling, hereby order as follows:— 1.

(1)This Order may be cited as the Onions (Maximum Prices) Order, 1947.
(2)This Order shall come into operation on the 16th day of January, 1947. 2. References in this Order to selling shall be construed as including references to agreeing or offering to sell or to inviting an offer to buy. 3. In this Order— (
  1. a)the word "onions" includes— (
  2. i)potato onions and shallots intended otherwise than for planting; (
  3. ii)onions which have been preserved by cold storage or by any other method of storage but does not include onions which have been canned or bottled or preserved otherwise than aforesaid; (
  4. b)any fraction of a halfpenny shall be regarded as one halfpenny. 4.
(1)No person shall sell onions other than Spanish Onions at a price exceeding a price calculated at whichever of the following rates is appropriate, that is to say:— (a) When sold to a retail merchant—28/- per cwt. free on rail. (b) When sold by retail—4d. per lb.
(2)No person shall sell Spanish Onions at a price exceeding a price calculated at whichever of the following rates is appropriate, that is to say:— (
  1. a)When sold to a retail merchant—35/6 per cwt. free on rail. (
  2. b)When sold by retail—5d. per lb. 5. No person shall offer or expose for sale by retail onions of any description unless at the time of sale he clearly indicates by means of a ticket or label the country of origin and the maximum retail price applicable to such description of onions in accordance with Article 4 of this Order. 6. Where a direction is given by the Minister in respect of any particular person or group of persons or in respect of any particular onions or description of onions the provisions of this Order shall, if and in so far as they are consistent with such direction, have effect subject to such direction. 7. The Emergency Powers (Onions) (Maximum Prices) (No. 2) Order, 1946 (S. R. & O. No. 277 of 1946) is hereby revoked. GIVEN under my Official Seal this 15th day of January, 1947. (Signed) SEÁN F.
