I, JAMES EVERETT, Minister for Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 12 of the Police Forces Amalgamation Act, 1925 (No. 7 of 1925), and with the sanction of the Minister for Finance, testified by his official seal affixed hereto, hereby order as follows : 1.—

(1)This Order may be cited as the Garda Síochána Allowances Order, 1955.
(2)The Garda Síochána Allowances Orders, 1947 to 1954, and this Order may be cited together as the Garda Síochána Allowances Orders, 1947 to
  2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.
  3. In this Order " the Principal Order " means the Garda Síochána Allowances (Consolidation) Order, 1947 ( S. R. & O. No. 167 of 1947 ). 4.—
(1)The rent allowance payable, by virtue of Article 4 of the Principal Order, as amended by the Garda Síochána Allowances Order, 1950 ( S.I. No. 174 of 1950 ), to every married member of the Force for whose family suitable official quarters are not available and who holds the rank of Inspector or any higher rank shall be increased by ten per cent.
(2)The maximum amounts to which the rent allowance payable, by virtue of Article 4 of the Principal Order, as amended by the Garda Síochána Allowances Order, 1950, and the Garda Síochána Allowances (No. 2) Order, 1951, ( S.I. No. 409 of 1951 ), may be increased (under the said provisions) by the Minister for Justice, shall, in the case of Station Sergeants, Sergeants and Guards who are married, be increased by twelve and one-half per cent.
(3)Paragraphs
(1)and
(2)of this Article shall be deemed to have come into operation on the 1st day of July,
  2. The Principal Order is hereby amended by the deletion, in paragraph
(1)of Article 4, of the words from " the Minister shall also have power to increase the allowance to £26 per annum " to the end of the paragraph.
  1. Article 7 of the Garda Síochána Allowances Order, 1953 ( S.I. No. 258 of 1953 ), is hereby amended by the substitution of " the 1st day of November, 1952 " for " the 1st day of April, 1953."
  2. The following provisions are hereby revoked : (a) Paragraph
(6)of Article 4 of the Principal Order, (
  1. b)The Sixth Schedule to the Principal Order, and (
  2. c)The Garda Síochána Allowances Order, 1951, ( S.I. No. 206 of 1951 ). GIVEN under my Official Seal, this 19th day of December, 1955. (Signed) JAMES EVERETT, Minister for Justice.
