AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR THE TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION OF PRISONERS. [21st March, 1956.] BE IT ENACTED BY THE OIREACHTAS AS FOLLOWS:— Lock-ups. 1.—A prisoner may be detained temporarily in a lock-up provided in a Garda Síochána station or in any other place, being a place designated for the purpose by the Minister for Justice,— (
  4. a)while in transit from a prison to a court for trial or on adjournment or remand; (
  5. b)while a case in which he is involved is at hearing; (
  6. c)for a period of not more than forty-eight hours while awaiting removal to a prison on conviction or remand. Repeal. 2.— Section 23 of the General Prisons (Ireland) Act, 1877 , is hereby repealed. Short title, collective citation and construction. 3.—

(1)This Act may be cited as the Prisons Act, 1956.
(2)The Prisons (Ireland) Acts, 1826 to 1933, and this Act may be cited together as the Prisons Acts, 1826 to 1956, and shall be construed as one.
