FACTORIES (PROTECTION OF EYES) REGULATIONS, 1956. I, WILLIAM NORTON, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the power conferred on me by section 60 of the Factories Act, 1955 (No. 10 of 1955), after consultation with the Minister for Health, hereby make the following regulations : 1.
(1)These Regulations may be cited as the Factories (Protection of Eyes) Regulations, 1956.
(2)These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of October, 1956. 2. Each process specified in the Schedule to these Regulations shall be a process in which suitable goggles or effective screens shall be provided to protect the eyes of the persons employed in the process. SCHEDULE. 1. Dry grinding of metals or articles of metal applied by hand to a revolving wheel or disc driven by mechanical power. 2. Turning of metals where the work is done dry, other than precision turning where the use of goggles or a screen would seriously interfere with the work. 3. Welding or cutting of metals by means of an electrical, oxy-acetylene or similar process. 4. Processes involving the use or manipulation of corrosive or other liquids detrimental to the eyes. 5. The following processes when carried on by means of hand tools or other portable tools : (
- a)fettling of metal castings involving the removal of metal ; (
- b)cutting out or cutting off (not including drilling or punching back) of cold rivets or bolts from boilers or other plant or from ships ; (
- c)chipping or scaling of boilers or ships' plates ; (
