I, WILLIAM NORTON, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Article 31 of the Emergency Powers Order, 1939 (S. R. & O. No. 224 of 1939), as amended by the Emergency Powers (No. 173) Order, 1942 (S. R. & O. No. 166 of 1942), (which Orders are continued in force by the Supplies and Services (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1946 (No. 22 of 1946)), hereby order as follows :— 1. This Order may be cited as the Motor Fuel Order, 1956. 2. In this Order— " dealer " means a person carrying on the business of supplying motor fuel by retail ; " motor fuel " means any hydrocarbon oil suitable for use for combustion in a compression ignition or spark ignition engine ; " motor vehicle " means a mechanically propelled vehicle constructed or adapted for use on roads. 3. Except in accordance with the directions of the Minister for Industry and Commerce, no person shall obtain motor fuel from a dealer and no dealer shall sell motor fuel to any person unless it is placed forthwith into the ordinary fuel tank of a motor vehicle. This instrument prohibits the sale by, or purchase from, a retail motor fuel dealer of motor spirit or heavy oil otherwise than by direct delivery from the pump to the ordinary fuel tank of the purchaser's motor vehicle.
