MOTOR SPIRIT (MAXIMUM PRICES) (NO. 3) ORDER, 1957. I, SEÁN F. LEMASS, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Article 31 of the Emergency Powers Order, 1939 (S. R. & O. No. 224 of 1939) as amended by the Emergency Powers (No. 173) Order, 1942 (S. R. & O. No. 166 of 1942) (which Orders are continued in force by the Supplies and Services (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1946 (No. 22 of 1946) ) hereby order as follows :— 1.—

(1)This Order may be cited as the Motor Spirit (Maximum Prices) (No. 3) Order, 1957.
(2)This Order shall come into operation on the 12th day of July,
  1. References in this Order to selling shall be construed as including references to agreeing or offering to sell or to inviting an offer to buy.
  2. Any fraction of a halfpenny in a price calculated in accordance with the provisions of this Order shall be regarded as one halfpenny. 4.—
(1)The retail price at which Standard Grade or Second Grade Motor Spirit may be sold shall not exceed the cost of such Motor Spirit to the retailer increased by 4½d. per gallon.
(2)The retail price at which Premium or Number 1 Grade Motor Spirit may be sold shall not exceed the cost of such Motor Spirit to the retailer increased by 5d. per gallon. 5. In this Order the expression " Motor Spirit " means any spirit which consists wholly or partly of hydrocarbon light oils as defined in sub-section
(7)of Section 1 of the Finance (Customs Duties) (No. 4) Act, 1931 (No. 43 of 1931), and which is suitable for the propulsion of a motor vehicle.
  1. The Motor Spirit (Maximum Prices) (No. 2) Order, 1957 ( S.I. No. 65 of 1957 ) is hereby revoked. GIVEN under my Official Seal this 11th day of July,

This instrument increases the margin which may be taken by a retailer on Motor Spirit by 1d. per gallon, i.e. to 4½d. per gallon in the case of Standard Grade or Second Grade Motor Spirit and to 5d. per gallon in the case of Premium or No. 1 Motor Spirit.
