FACTORIES ACT, 1955 (LIFTS) (EXEMPTION) ORDER, 1960. I, JOHN LYNCH, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the power conferred on me by subsection
(13)of section 33 of the Factories Act, 1955 (No. 10 of 1955), and it having been shown to my satisfaction that it would be unreasonable in the special circumstances of the case to enforce certain requirements of the said section 33 in respect of a certain class or description of lift, hereby order as follows :— 1. This Order may be cited as the Factories Act, 1955 (Lifts) (Exemption) Order, 1960. 2. The requirements of paragraph (b) of subsection
(7)of section 33 of the Factories Act, 1955 (No. 10 of 1955), shall not apply as respects the class or description of lift specified in the Schedule to this Order. SCHEDULE. Every lift in the case of which the doors of the liftway are of solid construction and the interior surfaces of the said doors and of the liftway opposite to any side of the cage in which there is an opening are, throughout the height of travel of the cage, smooth and flush with each other save for any recess designed for working purposes and not more than half-an-inch in depth and handgrips not exceeding one inch in depth provided for closing doors and so constructed as to prevent trapping. The effect of this Instrument is to exclude from the provisions of section 33
(7)(b) of the Factories Act, 1955 a particular type of lift which is used for the carrying of persons.
