FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE (IMPORTATION OF ANIMALS) ORDER, 1960. I, PATRICK SMITH, Minister for Agriculture, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by the joint operation of the Agriculture Acts, 1931 to 1958, and the Diseases of Animals Acts, 1894 to 1960, and of every and any other power me in this behalf enabling, hereby order as follows:— 1. This Order may be cited as the Foot and Mouth Disease (Importation of Animals) Order, 1960. 2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937) applies to this Order. 3. The import from Great Britain, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or the continent of Europe of any animal is hereby prohibited unless such animal is imported under and in accordance with a licence in that behalf granted by the Minister for Agriculture and such licence is, at the time of importation, delivered to the proper Officer of Customs and Excise. 4. Nothing in this Order shall be construed as affecting the operation of the Orders set out in the Schedule to this Order. 5. For the purposes of the following sections of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1894, that is to say, sections 22, 25, 43, 44, 56, 65 and 74 and all other sections (including sections-relating to offences and legal proceedings) containing provisions relative to or consequent on those sections, the word "animals" shall comprise all kinds of four-footed beasts. Rodents and Insectivora (Restriction on Importation) Order, 1954 ( S.I. No. 114 of 1954 ). GIVEN under the Official Seal of the Minister for Agriculture, this 15th day of November, 1960. PATRICK SMITH, Minister for Agriculture. EXPLANATORY NOTE. The Order prohibits the importation, except under licence, of all four-footed animals from Britain, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands and the Continent of Europe.
