FOOD HYGIENE (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1961. The Minister for Health in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section 54 of the Health Act, 1947 (No. 28 of 1947), after consultation with the Minister for Industry and Commerce and the Minister for Agriculture, hereby makes the following regulations :— 1.
(1)These regulations may be cited as the Food Hygiene (Amendment) Regulations, 1961.
(2)These regulations and the Food Hygiene Regulations, 1950 and 1952, shall be construed as one and may be cited together as the Food Hygiene Regulations, 1950 to 1961. 2. Article 48 of the Food Hygiene Regulations, 1950 ( S.I. No. 205 of 1950 ) is hereby amended by the substitution therein for the definition of " heat treatment " of the following: " the expression 'heat treatment ' means— (
- a)the heating of a mixture to, and the retention of the temperature of a mixture at— (
- i)150°F or higher for not less than thirty minutes ; or (
- ii)160° F or higher for not less than fifteen minutes; or (
- b)in the case of a particular machine or process, the heating of a mixture to, and its retention at such temperature, for such period, by such means and subject to such conditions as may be approved by the Minister for that particular machine or process." EXPLANATORY NOTE These regulations will empower the Minister to approve in particular circumstances different methods for the " heat treatment " of ice-cream from those at present permitted.
