I, JOHN LYNCH, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 19 of the Prices Act, 1958 (No. 4 of 1958), hereby order as follows: 1. This Order may be cited as the Retail Price (Food) Display Order, 1963. 2. This Order shall come into operation on the 11th day of November, 1963. 3. Every person who carries on in the State the business of selling by retail any commodity specified in the Schedule to this Order shall display the retail price or prices charged by him for that commodity on a notice exhibited at the shop, vehicle or other place where the business is carried on in such a position as to be capable of being easily read by persons frequenting the part of the thoroughfare fronting and adjacent to such shop, vehicle or other place. 4. A notice under Article 3 of this Order exhibited at any shop vehicle or other place shall contain a list of the commodities specified in the Schedule to this Order which are for sale by retail at such shop, vehicle or other place and the notice shall specify, in respect of each such commodity, in characters not less than one half-inch in height and of proportionate breadth— (
- a)a description of the commodity, and (
- b)opposite the description, the retail price charged at such, shop, vehicle or other place for the commodity, and if there is more than one such price, the maximum and minimum prices, together with a statement of the weight, measure or number by reference to which the price or prices is or are calculated. SCHEDULE. Batch bread—that is to say, bread which is not baked in containers and is sold or offered for sale in loaves of which the outside is not all crust. Flour. Butter. Tea. Eggs. Potatoes. Beef. Mutton. Bacon. Pork. Oranges. GIVEN under my Official Seal, this 8th day of November, 1963. JOHN LYNCH, Minister for Industry and Commerce. EXPLANATORY NOTE. This instrument requires every person who carries on in the State the business of selling by retail the commodities set out in the Schedule to the instrument to display in a specified manner the retail price charged by him for each such commodity.
