I, MICHAEL HILLIARD, Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 2 of the Telegraph Act, 1885, and with the consent of the Minister for Finance, hereby make the following regulations:— 1.—

(1)These Regulations may be cited as the Telex (Amendment) Regulations, 1964.
(2)The Telex Regulations, 1955 ( S.I. No. 229 of 1955 ), and these Regulations may be cited together as the Telex Regulations, 1955 and 1964. 2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 10th day of October, 1964. 3. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations. 4. The Telex Regulations, 1955, are hereby amended as follows: (
  1. a)in Regulation 4 " 'subscriber keyed call' means a call obtained without the intervention of a telex exchange operator and in respect of which the charge for the call, calculated in accordance with these Regulations, is recorded on the meter associated with the subscriber's installation; " shall be inserted after the definition of " subscription "; (
  2. b)the following Regulation shall be inserted after Regulation 29: " 29A. The charges in respect of subscriber keyed calls may be aggregated and included as a single item in an account rendered to a subscriber and it shall not be necessary to furnish particulars of the number of such calls or of the individual charges in respect of such calls."; (
  3. c)the following shall be substituted for the Schedule: " SCHEDULE PART I Charges for Calls Other Than Subscriber Keyed Calls Description of call For the first three minutes or part of three minutes For each minute or part of a minute after the first three minutes s. d. s. d. 1. A call between two installations connected with the same telex exchange. 0 6 0 2 2. Any other call to an installation in Ireland: If the distance between the telex exchanges connected for the purpose of the call— (
  4. a)does not exceed 35 miles 0 6 0 2 (
  5. b)exceeds 35 miles but does not exceed 50 miles 1 0 0 4 (
  6. c)exceeds 50 miles 1 6 0 6 3. A call to an installation in Great Britain, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands 3 0 1 0 PART II Charges For Subscriber Keyed Calls The charge for a subscriber keyed call shall be the sum of twopence in respect of each period or part of a period of time specified in the Table to this Part of this Schedule which is appropriate to the call and during which the call continues. Description of call Period 1. A call between two installation connected with the same telex exchange. 1 minute. 2. Any other call to an installation in Ireland: If the distance between the telex exchange connected for the purpose of the call— (
  7. a)does not exceed 35 miles 1 minute. (
  8. b)exceeds 35 miles but does not exceed 50 niles 30 seconds. (
  9. c)exceeds 50 miles 20 seconds. 3. A call to an installation in Great Britain, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands. 10 seconds. GIVEN under my Official Seal, this 21st day of September, 1964. EXPLANATORY NOTE. These Regulations substitute a new Schedule of telex call charges which will come into operation on the change-over of the telex system from manual to automatic working.
