RABIES (IMPORTATION AND LANDING OF ANIMALS) ORDER, 1969. I, NEIL T. BLANEY, Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 3 , 10 , 11 and 30 of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (No. 6 of 1966), for the prevention of the spreading of rabies, hereby order as follows:— 1. This Order may be cited as the Rabies (Importation and Landing of Animals) Order, 1969. 2. This Order shall come into operation on the 15th day of December, 1969. 3. Part I of the First Schedule to the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (No. 6 of 1966), is hereby amended, so as to extend for the purpose of this Order the application of section 30 of that Act, by the insertion of the following paragraph after paragraph 9: " 10. An animal of a kind specified in Part I of the Schedule to the Rabies (Importation and Landing of Animals) Order, 1969 ( S.I. No. 248 of 1969 ) ". 4. Subject to Article 5 of this Order, the importation or landing of any animal specified in Part I or Part II of the Schedule to this Order is hereby prohibited save under and in accordance with a licence granted in that behalf by the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries. 5. Article 4 of this Order shall not apply in respect of— (
- a)the importation or landing of an animal which is shown to the satisfaction of the Revenue Commissioners to have been brought directly to the State from Northern Ireland, or (
- b)an animal which is transhipped in a port or transferred from an aircraft to any part of an airport or from one aircraft to another aircraft in an airport under and in accordance with a permission in writing obtained from an inspector, authorised person or officer of Customs and Excise. SCHEDULE PART I 1. Animals of the Order Primates (other than man). 2. The following animals of the Order Carnivora the families and common names of which are set out hereunder. Extends the definition of " animals " in the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (No. 6 of 1966) to include animals of the kind specified in the Schedule to this Order. 2. Prohibits save under licence of the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the importation or landing of any animal specified in the Schedule with the exception of (
- a)an animal brought directly from Northern Ireland and (
- b)an animal transhipped at a port or airport with the written permission of an officer of the Minister or an officer of Customs and Excise.
