BRUCELLOSIS IN CATTLE (CLEARANCE AREA) (GENERAL PROVISIONS) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1970. I, JAMES M. GIBBONS, Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, it appearing to me to be necessary for the purpose of the progressive eradication of brucellosis in cattle, do hereby, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 3 and 20 of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 , (No. 6 of 1966), order as follows: 1.
(1)This Order may be cited as the Brucellosis in Cattle (Clearance Area) (General Provisions) (Amendment) Order, 1970.
(2)The Brucellosis in Cattle (Clearance Area) (General Provisions) Orders, 1966 to 1969, and this Order may be cited together as the Brucellosis in Cattle (Clearance Area) (General Provisions) Orders, 1966 to 1970.
(3)This Order shall come into operation on the 22nd day of June,
- The Brucellosis in Cattle (Clearance Area) (General Provisions) Order, 1966 ( S.I. No. 120 of 1966 ), is hereby amended by the substitution for Article 16 of the following: "16.
(1)An ear-tag to be used in accordance with this Order shall be— (
- a)of a pattern approved by the Minister, (
- b)such that when inserted in the ear of an animal it becomes effectively closed and, if subsequently removed, cannot be used again, (
- c)such that, if identification letters or numbers borne by the ear-tag are altered (whether by addition, deletion or variation), the alteration is evident as such, (
- d)made of rigid, durable material, and (
- e)clearly legible.
(2)A veterinary inspector or authorised officer may apply, or cause to be applied, to an animal any mark which he considers necessary for the purpose of identification and the owner or person in charge of the animal shall permit the application of such mark.
(3)No person other than an authorised officer, or veterinary surgeon authorised by the Minister to do so, shall remove from a live animal an ear-tag inserted in pursuance of this Order.
(4)No person shall efface, obliterate or alter any ear-tag or other mark inserted or applied pursuant to this Order or apply a mark that could be confused with an ear-tag or mark so inserted or applied." This Order by amending the Brucellosis in Cattle (Clearence Area) (General Provisions) Order, 1966 makes additional provisions in relation to the ear-tagging and marking of cattle.
