No. 203 of 1970. IMPORTATION OF DOGS AND CATS (AMENDMENT) (No. 2) ORDER, 1970. I, JAMES GIBBONS, Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 3 , 10 and 33 of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (No. 6 of 1966), hereby order as follows: 1.
(1)This Order may be cited as the Importation of Dogs and Cats (Amendment) (No. 2) Order, 1970.
(2)The collective citation, the Importation of Dogs and Cats Orders 1929 to 1970, shall include this Order.
- In this Order— "the Principal Order" means the Importation of Dogs and Cats Order of 1929 (S.R. & O., No. 4 of 1929); "the Order of 1969" means the Importation of Dogs and Cats (Amendment) Order, 1969 ( S.I. No. 249 of 1969 ); "the Order of 1970" means the Importation of Dogs and Cats (Amendment) Order, 1970 ( S.I. No. 65 of 1970 ).
- Where on the 6th day of September, 1970, a detention and isolation under Article 2 of the Principal Order (as amended by the Order of 1970) was in progress, the period for which the dog or cat shall be detained and isolated shall, notwithstanding that Article (as so amended) and Article 5 of this Order, be not less than nine months.
- Article 3 of the Principal Order is hereby amended by the insertion of the following after paragraph (viii)— "(ix) for prescribing the vaccination of the dog or cat against rabies while in the place of detention ". 5.
(1)The Order of 1969 and the Order of 1970 are hereby revoked with effect from the 7th day of September, 1970.
(2)The Principal Order shall have effect as if the Order of 1969 and the Order of 1970 had not been made. GIVEN under my Official Seal, this 7th day of September, 1970. JAMES GIBBONS, Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries. EXPLANATORY NOTE. This Order 1. Reduces as follows the statutory minimum period of detention and isolation which imported canine and feline animals must undergo at approved quarantine premises— (
- i)from 12 months to 9 months in the case of animals under going quarantine on the 6th September, 1970 and (
- ii)from 12 months to 6 months in the case of animals imported after the 6th September, 1970. 2. Provides power to require the vaccination against rabies of imported canine and feline animals while detained in quarantine.
