FISHING NETS (REGULATION OF MESH) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1973. I, MICHAEL PAT MURPHY, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 226 and 230 of the Fisheries (Consolidation) Act, 1959 (No. 14 of 1959), and the Fisheries (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1965 ( S.I. No. 83 of 1965 ) (as adapted by the Agriculture (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1965 ( S.I. No. 146 of 1965 )), and the Fisheries (Delegation of Ministerial Functions) Order, 1973 ( S.I. No. 93 of 1973 ), hereby order as follows: 1. This Order may be cited as the Fishing Nets (Regulation of Mesh) (Amendment) Order, 1973. 2. Article 5 of the Fishing Nets (Regulation of Mesh) (Amendment) Order, 1965 ( S.I. No. 231 of 1965 ), is hereby amended by the substitution of "31st day of December, 1975" for "31st day of December, 1973" (inserted by the Fishing Nets (Regulation of Mesh) (Amendment) Order, 1971 ( S.I. No. 337 of 1971 )), and, accordingly, that Article shall have effect as set out in the Table to this Article. TABLE Notwithstanding Articles 3 and 5 of the Principal Order (as amended by this Order), it shall be lawful, during the period commencing on the 1st day of January, 1966, and ending on the 31st day of December, 1975, to have on board a sea-fishing boat any net having meshes of such dimensions that when any mesh is stretched diagonally lengthwise of the net a flat gauge 2 millimetres thick and 60 millimetres in width will pass through it provided that the boat is based on and landing its catch in ports in the area in the Irish Sea between the parallels 54°30' and 53° north latitudes and west of the meridian 5°15' west longitude, and that the net is used solely for the purpose of fishing for whiting in that area. This Order extends to 31st December, 1975, the period during which any net covered by Article 5 of the Fishing Nets (Regulation of Mesh) (Amendment) Order, 1965, may be used in certain areas of the Irish Sea.
