No. 282 of 1974. TELEGRAPH (INLAND WRITTEN TELEGRAM) AMENDMENT (No. 13) WARRANT, 1974. I, CONOR CRUISE O'BRIEN, Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 2 of the Telegraph Act, 1885, and with the consent of the Minister for Finance, hereby make the regulations contained in the following Warrant:— 1.

(1)This Warrant may be cited as the Telegraph (Inland Written Telegram) Amendment (No. 13) Warrant, 1974.
(2)This Warrant shall come into operation on the 1st day of October,

In this Warrant— "the 1920 Regulations" means the Telegraph (Inland Written Telegram) Regulations, 1920; "the 1955 Warrant" means the Telegraph (Inland Written Telegram) Amendment (No. 6) Warrant, 1955 ( S.I. No. 144 of 1955 ); "the 1971 Warrant" means the Telegraph (Inland Written Telegram) Amendment (No. 12) Warrant, 1971 ( S.I. No. 62 of 1971 ). 3.
(1)The 1920 Regulations are hereby amended by— ( a ) the substitution in Regulation 7
(1)for "3½p" (inserted by Regulation 3 (b) of the 1971 Warrant) of "5p". ( b ) the substitution of the following for Regulation 20 (inserted by Regulation 3 of the Telegraph (Inland Written Telegram) Amendment (No. 12) Warrant, 1971 ( S.I. No. 62 of 1971 )): "20 a telegram may, at the request of the sender, be delivered at several addresses within the limits of the free delivery of the Terminal Telegraph Office, and in such case 5p shall be charged and paid for the delivery of the telegram at each address after the first. Accordingly if, for example, a telegram contained a message of ten words of text and the following addresses (which contain twelve words):— Walshe, Waterford Curran, Waterford Power, Waterford O'Dwyer, Waterford Clery, Waterford Ryan, Waterford the telegram should be charged for as follows:— 22 words in text and addresses, 90p; 5 copies at 5p each, 25p; total 115p.
(2)In accordance with paragraph
(1)of this Regulation, Regulation 7
(1)of the 1920 Regulations shall have effect as set out in paragraph
(1)of the Table to this Warrant. 4.
(1)The 1955 Warrant is hereby amended by— ( a ) the substitution in Regulation 4 (
  1. a)for "40p" (inserted by Regulation 4 (
  2. a)of the 1971 Warrant) of "50p"; ( b ) the substitution in Regulation 4 (
  3. b)for "40p" and "3p" (both inserted by Regulation 4 (
  4. b)of the 1971 Warrant) of "50p" and "4p" respectively; ( c ) the substitution in Regulation 5 (
  5. a)for "45p" (inserted by Regulation 4 (
  6. c)of the 1971 Warrant) of "55p"; ( d ) the substitution in Regulation 5 (
  7. b)for "45p" and "3½p" (both inserted by Regulation 4 (
  8. d)of the 1971 Warrant) of "55p" and "4½p" respectively; ( e ) the substitution in Regulation 7
(1)(a) for "40p" (inserted by Regulation 4 ( f ) of the 1971 Warrant) of "50p"; ( f ) the substitution in Regulation 7
(1)(
  1. b)for "45p" (inserted by Regulation 4 (
  2. g)of the 1971 Warrant) of "55p"; ( g ) the substitution in Regulation 10 (
  3. a)for "40p" and "80p" (both inserted by Regulation 4 (
  4. k)of the 1971 Warrant) of "50p" and "102p", respectively; ( h ) the substitution in Regulation 10 (
  5. b)for "45p" and "80p" (both inserted by Regulation 4 (
  6. l)of the 1971 Warrant) of "65p" and "£2", respectively.
(2)In accordance with paragraph
(1)Regulations 4, 5, 7
(1)and 10 of the 1955 Warrant shall have effect as set out in paragraphs
(2),
(3),
(4)and
(5)respectively of the Table to this Warrant. TABLE

(1)Subject to the provisions of these Regulations there shall be charged and paid for the delivery of a Telegram by a special messenger at an address beyond the limits of free delivery the sum of 5p for any distance less than a mile, or for each mile and any part of a mile over and above any complete number of miles, from the boundary of the free delivery area.
(2)4. Subject to the provision of this Warrant, there shall be charged and paid for the transmission of a telegram, other than an overnight telegram within the State: ( a ) if the length of the telegram does not exceed twelve words, 50p; ( b ) if the length of the telegram exceeds twelve words, 50p for the first twelve words and 4p for each additional word.
(3)5. Subject to the provision of this Warrant, there shall be charged and paid for the transmission of a telegram, addressed to a place within the British Telegraph Administration:— ( a ) if the length of the telegram does not exceed twelve words, 55p; ( b ) if the length of the telegram exceeds twelve words, 55p for the first twelve words and 4½p for each additional word.

(1)Subject to the conditions specified in paragraph
(2)of this Regulation being satisfied, there shall be charged and paid for a telegram addressed to a newspaper, news agency, newsroom, club or exchange room and containing matter for publication as news (excluding (
  1. i)letters to the editor of a newspaper and (
  2. ii)advertisements, notices and articles which are not normally published without charge)— ( a ) for a telegram within the State for each 60 words or part thereof, 50p; ( b ) for a telegram addressed to a place within the British Telegraph Administration, for each 60 words or part thereof, 56p.

  1. The sender of a telegram may pay for the transmission of a reply thereto at the appropriate rate or rates, but the sum so paid shall not— ( a ) in the case of a telegram within the State, be less than 50p or exceed 102p and ( b ) in the case of a telegram to a place within the British Administration be less than 65p or exceed £
