SOCIAL WELFARE (OCCUPATIONAL INJURIES) (PRESCRIBED DISEASES) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1977. The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 3 of the Social Welfare Act, 1952 (No. 11 of 1952), and by section 23 of the Social Welfare (Occupational Injuries) Act, 1966 (No. 16 of 1966), hereby makes the following Regulations: 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Occupational Injuries) (Prescribed Diseases) (Amendment) Regulations, 1977. 2. These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Occupational Injuries) (Prescribed Diseases) Regulations, 1967 and 1973, may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Occupational Injuries) (Prescribed Diseases) Regulations, 1967 to 1977. 3. Part 1 of the Schedule to the Social Welfare (Occupational Injuries) (Prescribed Diseases) Regulations, 1967 ( S.I. No. 78 of 1967 ), is hereby amended by the insertion in the first and second columns thereof after reference No. 43 inserted by the Social Welfare (Occupational Injuries) (Prescribed Diseases) (Amendment) Regulations, 1973 ( S.I. No. 357 of 1973 ), of the following: "44 Viral Hepatitis ( a ) Close and frequent contact with human blood or human blood products; or ( b ) Close and frequent contact with a source of viral hepatitis infection by reason of employment in the medical treatment or nursing of a person or persons suffering from viral hepatitis, or in a service ancillary to such treatment or nursing." These Regulations by adding to the list of prescribed diseases set out in Part I of the Schedule to the Social Welfare (Occupational Injuries) (Prescribed Diseases) Regulations, 1967 extend insurance under the Social Welfare (Occupational Injuries) Act, 1966 in the case of persons employed in certain specified occupations, to viral hepatitis.
