SOCIAL WELFARE (VARIATION OF RATES OF SUPPLEMENTARY WELFARE ALLOWANCE) (No. 2) REGULATIONS, 1977. The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 10
(3)and 21 of the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Act, 1975 (No. 28 of 1975) hereby makes the following Regulations:—
- These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Variation of Rates of Supplementary Welfare Allowance) (No. 2) Regulations,
- These Regulations shall come into operation on the 3rd day of October,
- The rates of supplementary welfare allowance are hereby varied by the substitution for the rates set out in the Table to subsection
(1)(as varied by article 2 of the Social Welfare (Variation of Rates of Supplementary Welfare Allowance) Regulations, 1977) of section 10 of the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Act, 1975 of the rates set out in the following Table: TABLE. WEEKLY AMOUNTS OF SUPPLEMENTARY WELFARE ALLOWANCE. Classes of persons to whom the amounts of supplementary welfare allowance are applicable
(1)Weekly amount of supplementary welfare allowance
(2)Person without a dependant £10·30 Person with an adult dependant £17·90 Person with an adult dependant and one child dependant £21·20 Person with an adult dependant and two or more child dependants £24·50 plus, where there are more than two child dependants, £2·50 for each child dependant in excess of two. Person with one child dependant £13·75 Person with two or more child dependants £17·05 plus, where there are more than two child dependants, £2·50 for each child dependant in excess of two. EXPLANATORY NOTE. Section 10
(3)of the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Act, 1975 provides that the Minister for Social Welfare may, with the sanction of the Minister for Finance, by regulations vary (but not so as to reduce) the weekly amounts of supplementary welfare allowance payable under that Act. These Regulations provide for increased statutory rates of supplementary welfare allowance from 3rd October 1977 in line with the rates of unemployment assistance applicable to persons resident in rural areas.
