MERCHANDISE MARKS (PREPACKED GOODS) (MARKING AND QUANTITIES) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1979. I, DESMOND O'MALLEY, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy, after consultation with such persons as appear to me to be substantially interested in the general subject-matter of the Order following and after compliance with subsection

(10)of section 2 of the Merchandise Marks Act, 1970 (No. 10 of 1970), hereby, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by the said section 2, as adapted by the Industry and Commerce (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1977 ( S.I. No. 306 of 1977 ), order as follows:
  1. This Order may be cited as the Merchandise Marks (Prepacked Goods) (Marking and Quantities) (Amendment) Order,
  3. Part I of the First Schedule to the Merchandise Marks (Prepacked Goods) (Marking and Quantities) Order, 1973 ( S.I. No. 28 of 1973 ), shall have effect as if— ( a ) on and from the 1st day of July, 1979 — (i) in so far as it applies to instant coffee and other coffee and chicory extracts in solid or paste form, the following were inserted in column
(2): "All sizes below 25 grams 25 grams 50 grams 100 grams 200 grams 300 grams 2.5 kilograms" (ii) in so far as it applies to sugar, the following were inserted in the said column
(2): "All sizes below 100 grams 2.5 kilograms" and ( b ) on and from the 1st day of January, 1980— (i) in so far as it applies to instant coffee and other coffee and chicory extracts in solid or paste form, the following were deleted from the said column
(2): "62.5 grams 125 grams 250 grams 375 grams 2 ounces 4 ounces 8 ounces 12 ounces 1 pound 1½ pounds 2 pounds 3 pounds 4 pounds 5 pounds 6 pounds 7 pounds" and (ii) in so far as it applies to sugar, the following were deleted from the said column
(2): "62.5 grams 375 grams 2 ounces 4 ounces 8 ounces 12 ounces 1 pound 1½ pounds 2 pounds 3 pounds 4 pounds 5 pounds 6 pounds 7 pounds". GIVEN under my Official Seal, this 28th day of June,

EXPLANATORY NOTE This Order amends the Merchandise Marks (Prepacked Goods) (Marketing and Quantities) Order, 1973 (as amended) so as to prescribe additional new ranges of sizes for sugar and for instant coffee and other coffee or chicory extracts (whether in solid or paste form) with effect from 1 July, 1979 and to withdraw, with effect from 1 January, 1980, some of the sizes prescribed for these goods in
