BOROUGH OF SLIGO LOCAL ELECTORAL AREAS ORDER, 1979. The Minister for the Environment in exercise of the powers vested in him by section 35 of the Local Government Act, 1941 (No. 23 of 1941), as amended by sections 3 and 87 of, and the First Schedule to the Electoral Act, 1963 (No. 19 of 1963), hereby orders as follows:— 1. This Order may be cited as the Borough of Sligo Local Electoral Areas Order, 1979. 2. In this Order "the Borough" means the Borough of Sligo. 3. The Borough shall be divided into the local electoral areas set out in the first column of the Schedule to this Order. 4.
(1)Each such local electoral area shall consist of the area described in the second column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local electoral area.
(2)In the Schedule to this Order— ( a ) a reference to a line drawn along any street or road shall be construed as a reference to a line drawn along the centre of the street or road; ( b ) a reference to the point at which a street or road joins a boundary shall be construed as a reference to the point at which a line drawn along the centre of such street or road joins such boundary; ( c ) the expression "the Borough boundary" means the boundary of the Borough of Sligo at the date of this Order. ( d ) a reference to a ward shall be construed as a reference to such ward as constituted at the date of this Order.
- The number of members of the Council of the Borough to be elected for each such local electoral area shall be the number set out in the third column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local electoral area.
- The number of the said members to be elected for each such local electoral area who are to be aldermen shall be the number set out in the fourth column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local electoral area. (4)Number One The North Ward and that part of the West Ward situated north of a line drawn as follows:— 4 1 Commencing at the junction of Lord Edward Street with the boundary of the West Ward, thence commencing in a south-westerly direction and proceeding along Lord Edward Street and Knappagh Road to the junction of Knappagh Road with the Borough boundary. Number Two The East Ward 4 1 Number Three The West Ward except the part thereof comprised in the Number One Electoral Area. 4 2 GIVEN under the Official Seal of the Minister for the Environment this 15th day of February, 1979. This Order divides the Borough of Sligo into three electoral areas for the purposes of local elections and specifies the number of members of the Council of the Borough to be elected for each area and the number of these members who are to be aldermen.
