No. 54 of 1980. ROAD TRAFFIC (PUBLIC SERVICE VEHICLES) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1980. The Minister for the Environment in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 5 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) and section 82 of that Act, as amended by section 57 of the Road Traffic Act, 1968 (No. 25 of 1968) hereby makes the following Regulations:— 1.
(1)These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) (Amendment) Regulations, 1980.
(2)The Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) Regulations, 1963 to 1979 and these Regulations shall be construed as one and may be cited together as the Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) Regulations, 1963 to
- These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of April,
- In these Regulations:— "the 1979 Regulations" means the Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) (Amendment) Regulations, 1979 ( S.I. No. 242 of 1979 ); "the Principal Regulations" means the Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) Regulations, 1963 ( S.I. No. 191 of 1963 ); "Limerick Corporation" means the Mayor, Aldermen and Burgesses of Limerick; "Limerick Taximeter Area" means the area lying within a circle having a radius of seven miles with its centre at the General Post Office at Lower Cecil Street, Limerick.

(1)of the Principal Regulations as amended by article 5 of the 1979 Regulations, is hereby amended by the insertion in the definition of "taximeter area" after the words "Cork taximeter area" of the words "the Limerick taximeter area". 5. Article 9 of the Principal Regulations, as substituted by article 6 of the 1979 Regulations, is hereby amended by the addition thereto of—"and (d ) Limerick Corporation for the Limerick taximeter area". 6.
(1)Column 2 of the table to article 5 of the Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) (Licensing) Regulations, 1978 ( S.I. No. 292 of 1978 ) is hereby amended by the substitution of the words "Limerick Taximeter area" for the words "The County Borough of Limerick".
(2)Sub-article
(1)of article 15 of the Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) (Licensing) Regulations, 1978 ( S.I. No. 292 of 1978 ) is hereby amended by the deletion therefrom of the word "metal". 7. Notwithstanding the provisions of article

(1)of the Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) (Licensing) Regulations, 1978, a public service vehicle licence in force at the commencement of these Regulations which is expressed to licence the vehicle as a public service vehicle the use of which as a public hire vehicle is limited to use in the County Borough of Limerick shall be construed as limiting the use of such vehicle as a public hire vehicle to use in the Limerick taximeter area. EXPLANATORY NOTE These Regulations designate an area of seven miles radius from the General Post Office Limerick as a taximeter area and provide that small public service vehicles licensed for use as public hire vehicles in the County Borough of Limerick may operate in the Limerick Taximeter area.
