AmendmentsLeasuithe S.I. No. 11 of 1981. MERCHANT SHIPPING (CERTIFICATION OF SEAMEN) ACT, 1979 (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1981. I, ALBERT REYNOLDS, Minister for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 15
(4)of the Merchant Shipping (Certification of Seamen) Act, 1979 (No. 37 of 1979), and the Tourism and Transport (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1980 ( S.I. No. 11 of 1980 ), hereby order as follows:
(1)This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Certification of Seamen) Act( 1979, (Commencement) Order, 1981.
(2)Sections 1 to 3, 8 and 14 of the Merchant Shipping (Certification of Seamen) Act, 1979 shall come into operation immediately.
(3)The Merchant Shipping (Certification of Seamen) Act, 1979 , other than Sections 1 to 3, 8 and 14, shall come into operation on the 1st day of September,

- ALBERT REYNOLDS, Minister for Transport. EXPLANATORY NOTE. This Order brings into operation Sections 1 to 3, 8 and 14 of the Merchant Shipping (Certification of Seamen) Act, 1979 immediately, and the remaining sections of the Act on the 1st day of September,
- The Act provides for the issue of certificates of competency to certain categories of seamen, the repeal of certain provisions of the Merchant Shipping Acts, 1894 to 1968 and other related matters.
