EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (RECOGNITION OF QUALIFICATIONS IN VETERINARY MEDICINE) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1982. I, BRIAN LENIHAN, Minister for Agriculture, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purpose of giving effect to the amendment and extension of Council Directive No. 78/1026/EEC of 18 December, 1978,1 and Council Directive No. 78/1027/EEC of the said 18 December, 2 by the Treaty referred to in these Regulations, and by Council Directive No. 81/1057/EEC of 14 December, 1981,3 hereby make the following regulations: 1 O.J. (1)These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Recognition of Qualifications in Veterinary Medicine) (Amendment) Regulations, 1982.
(2)The Principal Regulations and these Regulations may be cited together as the European Communities (Recognition of Qualifications in Veterinary Medicine) Regulations, 1980 and
  2. In these Regulations "the Principal Regulations" means the European Communities (Recognition of Qualifications in Veterinary Medicine) Regulations, 1980 ( S.I. No. 391 of 1980 ). 3.
(1)Paragraphs (
  1. c)and (
  2. d)of section 31
(1)of the Veterinary Surgeons Act, 1931 (No. 36 of 1931), inserted by Regulation 4
(1)of the Principal Regulations, shall be construed and have effect having regard and subject to the provisions of— ( a ) Article 21 and Paragraph (j) of Annex I (III) of the Treaty relating to the accession of the Hellenic Republic to the European Economic Community and the European Atomic Energy Community, signed at Athens on the 28th day of May, 1979, and ( b ) Article 1 of Council Directive No. 81/1057/EEC of 14 December, 19813.
(2)The reference in Regulation 4
(2)of the Principal Regulations to paragraph
(1)shall be construed as including a reference to paragraph
(1)of this Regulation.
  1. The reference in Regulation 3 of the Principal Regulations to Directive No. 78/1026/EEC shall be construed as a reference to that Directive as amended and extended by Article 21 and paragraph (j) of Annex I (III) of the Treaty referred to in Regulation 3 of these Regulations and by Council Directive No. 81/1057/EEC of 14 December,

They provide for the amendment and extension of Council Directive No. 78/1026/EEC, so as to include nationals of EEC Member States whose training was begun before the 21 December, 1980 and was completed after that date. They also provide for recognition of a Greek veterinary qualification.
