I, BERTIE AHERN, T.D., Minister for Labour, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purpose of giving effect to Commission Directive No. 86/508/EEC of 7 October 1986

(1)hereby make the following Regulations:

(1)These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Paints, etc.) (Classification, Packaging and Labelling) (Amendment) Regulations, 1987.
(2)The European Communities (Paints, etc.) (Classification, Packaging and Labelling) Regulations, 1980, the European Communities (Paints, etc.) (Classification, Packaging and Labelling) (Amendment) Regulations, 1984, and these Regulations may be cited together as the European Communities (Paints, etc.) (Classification, Packaging and Labelling) Regulations, 1980 to
  2. These Regulations shall come into operation on 1st day of June,
  4. The European Communities (Paints, etc.) (Classification, Packaging and Labelling) Regulations, 1980 ( S.I. No. 365 of 1980 ), are hereby amended by the substitution of the following definition for the definition of "the Directive" in Regulation 3 (inserted by the European Communities (Paints, etc.) (Classification, Packaging and Labelling) (Amendment) Regulations, 1984 ( S.I. No. 170 of 1984 )): "'the Directive' means Council Directive No. 77/728/EEC of 7 November 1977

  2. BERTIE AHERN, Minister for Labour. EXPLANATORY NOTE. These Regulations implement, with effect from 1 June, 1988, Commission Directive No. 86/508/EEC of 7 October, 1986 and provide for amendments to Annex I and Annex II of Council Directive No. 77/728/EEC of 7 November,
  3. The amendment to Annex I alters the reference number of the ISO standard in Explanatory Note 6 from "ISO Norm 6713/1980" to "ISO 6713 — 1984". The amendment to Annex II provides that the labels of packages of paints and varnishes shall be required to contain a warning to the effect that the paint or varnish contains lead where the level of lead exceeds 0.25%.
