THE SOLICITORS ACTS, 1954 AND 1960 (APPRENTICESHIP AND EDUCATION) REGULATIONS, 1987. The Incorporated Law Society of Ireland in exercise of its powers conferred by sections 4 , 5 , 25 and 40 of the Solicitors Act 1954 hereby make the following Regulations. 1. On and after the date on which these Regulations shall come into operation, Regulation No. 26 (

  5. ii)of the Solicitors Acts 1954 and 1960 (Apprenticeship and Education) Regulations 1975 ( S.I. No. 66 of 1975 ) as substituted by the Solicitors Acts 1954 and 1960 (Apprenticeship and Education) Regulations 1981 ( S.I. No. 226 of 1981 ) shall be deleted and the following Regulation shall be substituted therefor: 26. (
  6. i)A person who has been called to the bar shall be exempted from the Preliminary Examination. (
  7. ii)A person who has been called to the bar and who has practised continuously as a Barrister-at Law in the State for 10 years or longer during the 15 years ending on the first day of the Vocational Course in the Society's Law School which the person proposes to attend may, at the discretion of the Education Committee, be exempted in whole or in part from the Final Examination—First Part. 2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of March 1987. 3. These Regulations shall be cited as the Solicitors Acts 1954 and 1960 (Apprenticeship and Education) Regulations 1987 and shall be read with the Regulations referred to in Clause 1 of this Instrument. EXPLANATORY NOTE Under the 1981 Regulations a practising Barrister-at-Law seeking admission under Section 43 of the Solicitors Act, 1954 is exempt from passing the Final Examination — First Part. Such a Barrister-at-Law, under the New Regulations, may at the discretion of the Education Committee be exempted in whole or in part from the Final Examination — First Part provided that he has practised continuously as a barrister in the State for 10 years or longer during the 15 years ending on the first day of the Vocational Course in the Society's Law School which he proposes to attend.
