EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (NAMES AND LABELLING OF TEXTILE PRODUCTS) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1988. I, ALBERT REYNOLDS, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purpose of giving effect to Commission Directive No. 87/140/EEC of 6 February 19871, hereby make the following Regulations: 1OJ No. L 56/24, 26.2.1987. 1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Names and Labelling of Textile Products) (Amendment) Regulations, 1988. 2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of September, 1988. 3. In these Regulations "the Principal Regulations" means the European Communities (Names and Labelling of Textile Products) Regulations, 1973 ( S.I. No. 43 of 1973 ). 4. References in the Principal Regulations to Council Directive No. 71/307/EEC of 26 July, 19712 shall be construed as references to that Directive as amended by Council directive No. 83/623/EEC of 25 November, 19833 and Commission Directive No. 87/140/EEC of 6 February, 1987. 2OJ No. L 185/16, 16.8.1971. 3OJ No. L 353/8, 15.12.1983. 5. Notwithstanding section 10
(4)of the Petty Sessions (Ireland) Act, 1851, proceedings for an offence under the Principal Regulations, as amended by these Regulations, committed after the commencement of these Regulations may be instituted within 18 months from the date of the offence. These Regulations have been made to give effect to Commission Directive No. 87/140/EEC of 6 February, 1987 (OJ No. L56/24, 26 February, 1987) which amends Council Directive No. 71/307/EEC of 26 July, 1971 (O.J No. L185/16, 16 August, 1971) as already amended by Council Directive 83/623/EEC of 25 November, 1983 (O.J No. L353/8, 15 December, 1983), all relating to the names and labelling of textile products.
