AmendmentsLeasuithe S.I. No. 200 of 1989. SOCIAL WELFARE (SUPPLEMENTARY WELFARE ALLOWANCES) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1989. The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 3 , 209 and 219 of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1981 (No. 1 of 1981 ), hereby makes the following Regulations: 1.
(1)These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) (Amendment) Regulations, 1989.
(2)These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Regulations, 1977 to 1988 may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Regulations, 1977 to
- These Regulations shall come into operation on the 7th day of August,
- In these Regulations:— "the Regulations of 1987" means the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) (Amendment) Regulations, 1987 ( S.I. No. 281 of 1987 ); "the Regulations of 1988" means the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) (Amendment) Regulations, 1988 ( S.I. No. 184 of 1988 ).
- Article 6 (as amended by the Regulations of 1988) of the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Regulations, 1977 ( S.I. No. 168 of 1977 ), is hereby amended— (a) as respects persons to whom article 3 (b) of the Regulations of 1987 does not apply, by the substitution in sub-articles
(1)(a) and
(2)of "£3.20" for "£3.10", (
- b)as respects persons to whom article 3 (
- b)of the Regulations of 1987 applies, by the substitution in sub-articles
(1)(a) and
(2)of "£1.70" for "£3.10", (c) by the substitution in sub-article
(6)of "£30" for "£10". GIVEN under the Official Seal of the Minister for Social Welfare, this 31st day of July,

These Regulations increase from £3.10 to £3.20 and from £1.60 to £1.70 the minimum rents which must be paid by claimants and recipients of rent supplements under the supplementary welfare allowances scheme. In addition, they increase from £10 to £30 a week the amount of rent supplement which can be paid by a health board without Ministerial consent.
