RESTRICTION OF IMPORTS (IRON AND STEEL FROM THE GERMAN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC) ORDER, 1989. The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 2 of the Restriction of Imports Act, 1962 (No. 20 of 1962) hereby order as follows: 1. This Order may be cited as the Restriction of Imports (Iron and Steel Products from the German Democratic Republic) Order, 1989. 2.
(1)A reference in this Order to a CN code number shall be taken to be a reference to that code number in the Integrated Tariff of the European Communities (TARIC), as amended from time to time, which tariff is based on the codes of the Combined Nomenclature in the Annex to Council Regulation EEC No. 3174/89
(1)of 21 September, 1988 as amended or replaced by any subsequent Regulations or Decisions of an institution of the European Communities. 1O.J. No. L 298 of 31.10.1988, p.1.
(2)The particulars stated in column
(2)of the Schedule to this Order are inserted solely to facilitate identification of the goods referred to at the tariff heading and CN code number mentioned in column
(1)of that Schedule opposite the insertion in column
(2), and, accordingly, nothing contained in column
(2)shall affect the construction or limit or control the operation of any provision of this Order (including the mention of the tariff heading and CN code number in column
(1)). 3. The importation into the State of goods which are of a kind specified in column
(1)of the Schedule to this Order and which are manufactured or produced in the German Democratic Republic is hereby prohibited save under and in accordance with a licence issued by the Minister for Industry and Commerce. 4. The Restriction of Imports (Iron and Steel Products from the German Democratic Republic) Order, 1986, ( S.I. No. 223 of 1986 ), is hereby revoked. SCHEDULE

The effect of this Order is to prohibit, save under a licence issued by the Minister for Industry and Commerce the import of certain iron and steel products which are manufactured or produced in, or are consigned from, the German Democratic Republic. The Order enables the Minister to enforce quantitative restrictions authorised from time to time by the Commission of the European Economic Communities.
