AmendmentsLeasuithe I, RAY BURKE, Minister for Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 14 of the Police Forces Amalgamation Act, 1925 (No. 7 of 1925), hereby, with the approval of the Government, make the following regulations: 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Garda Síochána (Retirement) Regulations, 1990. 2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations. 3. Notwithstanding anything in the Garda Síochána (Retirement) Regulations, 1934 (S.R. & O., No. 146 of 1934), as amended, and the Garda Síochána (Retirement) (No. 2) Regulations, 1951 ( S.I. No. 335 of 1951 ), as amended, a member of the Garda Síochána appointed to the rank of Commissioner after the commencement of these Regulations shall retire— ( a ) on completion of 7 years' service in that rank, or ( b ) on attaining the age of 60 years, whichever is the earlier: Provided however that if the member is aged 55 years or more on such commencement, he shall retire— ( a ) on completion of 5 years' service in that rank, or ( b ) on attaining the age of 65 years, whichever is the earlier.
