AmendmentsLeasuithe I, RAY BURKE, Minister for Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 14 of the Police Forces Amalgamation Act, 1925 (No. 7 of 1925), hereby, with the approval of the Government, make the following Regulations: 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Garda Síochána (Retirement) Regulations, 1991. 2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations. 3. Regulation 3 of the Garda Síochána (Retirement) Regulations, 1989 ( S.I. No. 303 of 1989 ), is hereby amended by the substitution for "31st day of December, 1991," of "31st day of December, 1992," and the said Regulation 3, as so amended, is set out in the Table to this Regulation. TABLE 3. The Garda Síochána (Retirement) (No. 2) Regulations, 1951 ( S.I. No. 335 of 1951 ), are hereby amended by the insertion in paragraph 6 after subparagraph (
- b)of the following subparagraph— "(
- c)Notwithstanding the provisions of subparagraph (
- a)(iii) of this paragraph, a member of the Garda Síochána below the rank of superintendent who attains the age of 57 years on or after the 19th day of November, 1989, and not later than the 31st day of December, 1992, may continue to serve in an established capacity in the Garda Síochána until he or she attains the age of 60 years." These regulations provide for the extension of retirement age to 60 years in the case of members of the Garda Síochána in the ranks of Garda, Sergeant and Inspector who are due to retire on reaching 57 years of age between 1 January 1992 and 31 December 1992, both dates inclusive.
