RULES OF PROCEDURE (DEFENCE FORCES), 1991. I, BRENDAN DALY, Minister for Defence in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 240 of the Defence Act, 1954 (No. 18 of 1954), hereby make the following rules: 1.

(1)These Rules may be cited as Rules of Procedure (Defence Forces), 1991.
(2)The Rules of Procedure (Defence Forces) 1954 to 1987, and these Rules may be cited together as the Rules of Procedure (Defence Forces), 1954 to
  1. The Rules of Procedure (Defence Forces), 1954 ( S.I. No. 243 of 1954 ), are hereby amended— (a) by the substitution in Rule 60
(1)(inserted by the Rules of Procedure (No. 3) (Defence Forces), 1983 ( S.I. No. 202 of 1983 )), for "death" of "imprisonment for life", and (b) by the substitution in Rule 61
(1)(inserted by the Rules of Procedure (No. 3) (Defence Force), 1983)), for "death" of "imprisonment for life". 3. Rule 3
(1)of the Rules of Procedure (Defence Forces), 1983 ( S.I. No. 22 of 1983 ), is hereby amended by the substitution for "a capital charge or a charge of murder" of "a charge of an offence for which a person would be required on conviction to be sentenced to imprisonment for life". 4. The Rules of Procedure (No. 2) (Defence Forces), 1983 ( S.I. No. 72 of 1983 ), are hereby amended— (a) by the substitution in Rule 4
(1)for "a capital charge or a charge of murder" of "a charge of an offence for which a person would be required on conviction to be sentenced to imprisonment for life", (b) by the substitution in Rule 8
(1)for "a capital charge or a charge of murder" of "a charge for an offence for which a person would be required on conviction to be sentenced to imprisonment for life", and (c) by the substitution in Rule 10 for "a capital charge of murder" of "a charge of an offence for which a person would be required on conviction to be sentenced to imprisonment for life". These Rules amend the Rules of Procedure (Defence Forces) 1954 to 1987 consequent on the amendment of the Defence Act, 1954 by the Criminal Justice Act, 1990 .
