The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 3 , 209 and 219 of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1981 (No. 1 of 1981), hereby makes the following Regulations:— 1 Short title and collective citation. 1.

(1)These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) (Amendment) Regulations, 1992.
(2)These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Regulations, 1977 to 1990 shall be construed as one and may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Regulations, 1977 to
  1. 2 Interpretation.
  2. In these Regulations "the Regulations of 1990" means the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) (Amendment) Regulations, 1990 ( S.I. No. 186 of 1990 ). 3 Commencement.
  3. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 27th day of July,
  4. 4 Amendment of article 6 (additions to weekly amount of allowance and other income).
  5. Article 6 of the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Regulations, 1977 ( S.I. No. 168 of 1977 ) is hereby amended by— ( a ) the substitution in sub-articles
(1)( a ) and
(2)(as amended by article 4 (a) of the Regulations of 1990) of "£5" for "£3.50", ( b ) the substitution in sub-article
(7)(as inserted by the Regulations of 1990) of "£3.50" for "£2" in each case in which the latter sum appears, and ( c ) the substitution in sub-article
(6)(as amended by article 4 ( c ) of the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) (Amendment) Regulations, 1989 ( S.I. No. 200 of 1989 )) of "£45" for "£30". GIVEN under the Official Seal of the Minister for Social Welfare, this 23rd day of July,

These Regulations provide for an increase from £3.50 to £5 in the minimum rents which must be paid by claimants for rent supplements under the supplementary welfare allowances scheme and an increase from £2 to £3.50 in the minimum rent applying in the case of certain claimants. In addition, they increase from £30 to £45 a week the amount of rent supplement which can be paid by a health board without Ministerial consent.
