(2)) (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1993. The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 8
(2)of the Social Welfare Act, 1993 (No. 5 of 1993), hereby orders as follows— 1 Citation. 1. This order may be cited as the Social Welfare Act, 1993 (Section 8
(2)) (Commencement) Order,
  1. 2 Commencement.
  2. Section 8
(2)of the Social Welfare Act, 1993 shall come into operation on the 26th day of July,
  1. GIVEN under the Official Seal of the Minister for Social Welfare this 25th day of June,
  2. MICHAEL WOODS, Minister for Social Welfare. EXPLANATORY NOTE. This Order brings Section 8
(2)of the Social Welfare Act, 1993 into effect from 26th July, 1993. Section 8
(2)empowers the Minister to make Regulations for the purpose of prescribing the method of calculating a woman's reckonable earnings in order to determine the weekly rate of Maternity allowance payable. The section also makes provision to facilitate an increase in the maximum weekly rate.
