The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 4, 179 and 188 of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, (No. 27 of 1993), hereby makes the following Regulations:— 1 Citation and construction. 1.

(1)These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) (Amendment) Regulations, 1994.
(2)These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Regulations, 1977 to 1992 shall be construed as one and may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Regulations, 1977 to
  1. 2 Interpretation.
  2. In these Regulations "the Regulations of 1992" means the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) (Amendment) Regulations, 1992 ( S.I. No. 220 of 1992 ). 3 Commencement.
  3. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 25th day of July,
  4. 4 Amendment of article 6 (additions to weekly amount of allowance and other income).
  5. Article 6 of the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Regulations, 1977 ( S.I. No. 168 of 1977 ) is hereby amended by— (a) the substitution in sub-articles
(1)(a) and
(2)(as amended by article 4 (
  1. a)of the Regulations of 1992) of "£6" for "£5", and (
  2. b)the substitution in sub-article
(7)(as amended by article 4 (b) of the Regulations of 1992) of "£4.50" for "£3.50" in each case in which the latter sum appears. GIVEN under the Official Seal of the Minister for Social Welfare, this 21st day of July,

These Regulations provide for an increase from £5 to £6 in the minimum rents which must be paid by claimants for rent supplements under the Supplementary Welfare Allowance scheme and an increase from £3.50 to £4.50 in the minimum rent applying in the case of certain claimants. The increases come into effect from the 25th day of July,
