The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 4 of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1993 (No. 27 of 1993), Rule 1 (as amended by section 15 of the Social Welfare Act, 1994 (No. 4 of 1994)) and Rule 4 (as amended by section 16 of the Social Welfare Act, 1994 ) of Part II of the Third Schedule to the said Act, hereby makes the following Regulations:— 1 Citation and construction. 1.

(1)These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Social Assistance) (Amendment) Regulations, 1994.
(2)These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Social Assistance) Regulations, 1993 shall be construed together as one and may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Social Assistance) Regulations, 1993 and
  1. 2 Interpretation.
  2. In these Regulations— "the Act of 1994" means the Social Welfare Act, 1994 (No. 4 of 1994); "the Principal Regulations" means the Social Welfare (Social Assistance) Regulations, 1933 ( S.I. No. 364 of 1993 ). 3 Earnings Disregard — Lone Parent's Allowance. 3.
(1)The Principal Regulations are hereby amended by the insertion after article 24 of the following article:— "24A. The amount prescribed for the purposes of paragraph
(4)(jj) of Rule 1 of Part II of the Third Schedule to the Principal Act (inserted by section 15 of the Act of 1994) shall be £24 per week.".
(2)This article shall come into operation on the 21st day of July, 1994. 4 Earnings Disregard — Carer's Allowance. 4.
(1)The Principal Regulations are hereby amended by the insertion after article 29 of the following article:— "29A. The amount prescribed for the purposes of paragraph (1A) of Rule 4 of Part II of the Third Schedule to the Principal Act (inserted by section 16 of the Act of 1994) shall be £100 per week.".
(2)This article shall come into operation on the 28th day of July,

Section 15 of the Social Welfare Act, 1994 provides that a prescribed amount of a person's earnings, from employment or self-employment can be disregarded in the assessment of means for Lone Parent's Allowance. These Regulations provide that the amount to be disregarded will be £24 per week. Section 16 of the Social Welfare Act, 1994 provides that where a carer's spouse is in employment or self-employment, a prescribed amount of their earnings can be disregarded in the assessment of means for Carer's Allowance. These Regulations provide that the amount to be disregarded will be £100 per week.
