DATA PROTECTION (FEES) REGULATIONS, 1996. I, NORA OWEN, Minister for Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 17 of the Data Protection Act, 1988 (No. 25 of 1988), hereby, with the consent of the Minister for Finance, make the following regulations: 1.

(1)These Regulations may be cited as the Data Protection (Fees) Regulations, 1996.
(2)These Regulations shall come into operation on the 19th day of May,
  1. In these Regulations "the Act" means the Data Protection Act, 1988 (No. 25 of 1988). 3.
(1)A fee of £250 is hereby prescribed for the purposes of section 17
(2)of the Act in respect of an application for registration made by a person who has more than 25 persons in his or her employment.
(2)A fee of £50 is hereby prescribed for the purposes of the said section in respect of an application for registration made by a person who has not less than 6 and not more than 25 persons in his or her employment.
(3)A fee of £20 is hereby prescribed for the purposes of the said section in respect of an application for registration made by any other person. 4.
(1)A fee of £250 is hereby prescribed for the purposes of section 17
(7)of the Act in respect of an application for continuance of registration made by a person who has more than 25 persons in his or her employment.
(2)A fee of £50 is hereby prescribed for the purposes of the said section in respect of an application for continuance of registration made by a person who has not less than 6 and not more than 25 persons in his or her employment.
(3)A fee of £20 is hereby prescribed for the purposes of the said section in respect of an application for continuance of registration made by any other person.
(4)A fee of £50 is hereby prescribed for the purposes of the said section in respect of an application for alteration of the particulars in an entry in the register.
  1. The Data Protection (Fees) Regulations, 1990 ( S.I. No. 80 of 1990 ), are hereby revoked. GIVEN under my Official Seal, this 9th day of April,

The regulations alter the fees payable by persons applying to be registered, or to have their registration continued, under the Data Protection Act, 1988 . They provide for registration fees of £250 for persons who have more than 25 persons in employment; £50 for persons who have between 6 and 25 persons in employment; and £20 for all other persons. The regulations will come into effect on 19 May,
