EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (INDICATION OF PRICES OF FOODSTUFFS AND NON-FOOD PRODUCTS) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1996. I, RICHARD BRUTON, Minister for Enterprise and Employment, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purpose of giving effect to European Parliament and Council Directive No. 95/58/EC of 29 November 1995*, hereby make the following Regulations: * O.J. No. L299, 12.12.1995, p.11. 1.

(1)These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Indication of Prices of Foodstuffs and Non-Food Products) (Amendment) Regulations, 1996.
(2)These Regulations and the European Communities (Indication of Prices of Foodstuffs and Non-Food Products) Regulations, 1991 ( S.I. No. 329 of 1991 ), and the European Communities (Indication of Prices of Foodstuffs and Non-Food Products) (Amendment) Regulations, 1993 ( S.I. No. 307 of 1993 ), may be cited together as the European Communities (Indication of Prices of Foodstuffs and Non-Food Products) Regulations, 1991 to 1996.
(3)These Regulations shall be deemed to have come into operation on the 7th day of June,
  2. The European Communities (Indication of Prices of Foodstuffs and Non-Food Products) Regulations, 1991, are hereby amended— ( a ) in paragraph
(1)of Regulation 2— (
  1. i)by the substitution of the following definition for the definition of "the Foodstuffs Directive": "'the Foodstuffs Directive' means Council Directive No. 79/581/EEC of 19th June, 19791, as amended by Council Directive No. 88/315/EEC of 7th June, 19882, and European Parliament and Council Directive No. 95/58/EC of 29th November, 19954;", 1 O.J No. L158, 26.6.1979, p.19. 2 O.J No. L142, 9.6.1988, p.23. 4 O.J No. L299, 12.12.1995, p.11. and (
  2. ii)by the substitution of the following definition for the definition of "the Non-Food Products Directive": "'the Non-Food Products Directive' means Council Directive No. 88/314/EEC of 7th June 1988, as amended by European Parliament and Council Directive No. 95/58/EC of 29th November, 19954;", 3 O.J No. L142, 9.6.1988, p.19. and ( b ) in paragraphs
(2)and
(3)of Regulation 3 by the substitution of "the 6th day of June, 1997" for "the 6th day of June, 1995". GIVEN under my Official Seal, this 13th day of May,

These Regulations have been made to give effect to European Parliament and Council Directive No. 95/58/EC, which amends Council Directive No. 79/581/EEC as amended by Council Directives No. 88/314/EEC and 88/315/EEC. These Regulations amend the European Communities (Indication of Prices of Foodstuffs and Non-Food Products) Regulations,
  2. It is the intention of the amending Regulations to retrospectively extend, by a further two years, an existing deadline of 6th June,
  3. It had originally been intended that the requirement to indicate the unit-price for all prepackaged goods would come into effect on that date. This requirement will now come into effect on 6th June,
