This Order may be cited as the Garda Síochána (Ranks) Order, 1996. 2. It is hereby determined that the Garda Síochána shall be divided into the ranks specified in column

(1)of the First Schedule to this Order and that each rank shall consist of not more than the number of members of the Garda Síochána specified in column
(2)of that Schedule opposite the mention of the rank in column
