TELECOMMUNICATIONS (MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS) ACT, 1996 (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1996. I, Alan Dukes, T.D., Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 17

(2)of the Telecommunications (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1996 (No. 34 of 1996), hereby make the following Order:
  1. This Order may be cited as the Telecommunications (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1996 (Commencement) Order,
  3. In this Order, "the Act" means the Telecommunications (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1996 (No. 34 of 1996).
  4. The 16th day of December, 1996, is hereby appointed as the day on which sections 1,7, 10
(1),
(2)and
(3), 11, 13
(1)(other than paragraphs (a), (d) and (e)),
(2),
(3)and
(5), 14
(1)(in respect of section 46
(10)of the Postal and Telecommunications Services Act, 1983 , mentioned in column
(3)of Part I of the Third Schedule to the Act), 15, 16 and 17 of the Act shall come into operation. 4. The 1st day of January, 1997, is hereby appointed as the day on which section 14
(1)(in respect of section 90
(2)of the Postal and Telecommunications Services Act, 1983 , mentioned in column
(3)of Part I of the Third Schedule to the Act) of the Act shall come into operation. GIVEN under my Official Seal, this 13th day of December, 1996. ALAN DUKES. EXPLANATORY NOTE This Order brings into operation on 16 December 1996 certain provisions of the Telecommunications (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1996 . The Order provides for the commencement of the provisions of the Act relating to the fixing of the appropriate number of worker directors on the Board of Telecom Eireann, the postponement of the Telecom Eireann worker director elections due to be held in December 1996 and the expiry of terms of office of certain worker directors. In addition, the Order provides for the commencement on 16 December of provisions of the Act providing for price control for certain telecommunications services and the amendment of the Postal and Telecommunications Services Act, 1983 . The Order also commences some general provisions of the Act. The Order also provides for the commencement on 1 January, 1997 of a further provision of the Act repealing certain price control provisions of the Postal and Telecommunications Services Act, 1983 .
