SOCIAL WELFARE (CONSOLIDATED CONTRIBUTIONS AND INSURABILITY) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1996 The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 4 and 11 (as amended by section 12 of the Social Welfare Act, 1996 (No. 7 of 1996)) of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1993 (No. 27 of 1993), hereby makes the following Regulations: 1 Citation and Construction. 1.

(1)These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Consolidated Contributions and Insurability) (Amendment) Regulations, 1996.
(2)These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Consolidated Contributions and Insurability) Regulations, 1996 ( S.I. No. 312 of 1996 ) shall be construed together as one and may be cited as the Social Welfare (Contributions and Insurability) Regulations, 1996. 2 Commencement. 2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 20th day of December, 1996. 3 Employees of Bord Telecom Eireann. 3. Article 83
(1)of the Social Welfare (Consolidated Contributions and Insurability) Regulations, 1996 is hereby amended by (
  1. a)the insertion after paragraph (
  2. a)(
  3. v)of the following paragraph: "(
  4. vi)by Bord Telecom Eireann in a permanent and pensionable capacity and the terms and conditions of their employment provided for payments during illness on a basis which was considered adequate by the Minister,", and (
  5. b)the insertion after paragraph (
  6. g)of the following paragraph: "(
  7. h)having been employed, on 5th day of April 1995, by Bord Telecom Eireann in a capacity which was not permanent and pensionable, subsequently cease to be so employed, but immediately upon such cessation become employed by Bord Telecom Eireann in a permanent and pensionable capacity and the terms and conditions of the employment provide for payments during illness on a basis which is considered adequate by the Minister.". GIVEN under the Official Seal of the Minister for Social Welfare this 18th day of December, 1996. PROINSIAS DE ROSSA Minister for Social Welfare. The Minister for Finance hereby consents to the making of the foregoing Regulations. GIVEN under the Official Seal of the Minister for Finance this 20th day of December, 1996. RUAIRI QUINN Minister for Finance EXPLANATORY NOTE These Regulations provide that the modified social insurance status of employees of Bord Telecom Eireann, to whom this currently applies, will be maintained following the Strategic Alliance.
