ABATTOIRS ACT, 1988 (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1997 I, JOE WALSH, Minister for Agriculture and Food, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 2
(3)of the Abattoirs Act, 1988 (No. 8 of 1988), hereby order as follows:
- This Order may be cited as the Abattoirs Act, 1988 (Amendment) Order
- The definition of "animal" in section 2
(1)of the Abattoirs Act, 1988 (No. 8 of 1988) is hereby amended to include the "ratite" or running birds, ostriches, emus and rheas, so as to extend the application of this Act and its provisions to such animals.
- This Order shall come into effect on the 27th day of October

EXPLANATORY NOTE The effect of this Order is to extend the application of the Abattoirs Act, 1988 and its provisions to include the ratite or running birds, ostriches, emus and rheas.
