EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (SEED OF OIL PLANTS AND FIBRE PLANTS) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1997. I, IVAN YATES, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purpose of giving effect to Commission Directive 96/18/EC of 19 March 19961 and Council Directive 96/72/EC of 18 November 19962 in so far as they relate to seed of oil plants and fibre plants, hereby make the following Regulations: 1.

(1)These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Seed of Oil Plants and Fibre Plants) (Amendment) Regulations, 1997 and shall come into operation on the 3rd day of February, 1997.
(2)The European Communities (Seed of Oil Plants and Fibre Plants) Regulations, 1981 to 1995 and these Regulations may be cited together as the European Communities (Seed of Oil Plants and Fibre Plants) Regulations, 1981 to 1997 and shall be construed together as one.
  1. In these Regulations— "the Principal Regulations" means the European Communities (Seed of Oil Plants and Fibre Plants) Regulations, 1981 ( S.I. No. 38 of 1981 ).
  2. Regulation 2 of the Principal Regulations is hereby amended by the substitution in paragraph
(2)for "and Commission Directive 92/9/EEC of 19 February 1992" of "Commission Directive 92/9/EEC of 19 February 1992, "Commission Directive 92/107/EEC of 11 December 1992, Commission Directive 96/18/EC of 19 March 1996 and Commission Directive No. 96/72/EC of 18 November 1996". 4. The Schedule of the Principal Regulations is hereby amended— 1O.J. No. L76/21, 26-3-1996. 2O.J. No. L304/10, 27-11-1996. ( a ) in Annex III (
  1. i)by the substitution of "25" for "20" in column 2 of the Table in each place where it occurs, and ( b ) in Annex IV (
  2. i)paragraph A (
  3. a)1: (I) by the substitution of "EC" for "EEC", and (
  4. ii)paragraph A (
  5. b)1: (I) by the substitution of "EC" for "EEC". GIVEN under my Official Seal, this 30th day of January, 1997. IVAN YATES, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry. EXPLANATORY NOTE. This Regulation replaces the abbreviation "EEC" with "EC" with regard to packaging and labelling of seeds. The maximum weights for seed lots of certain species have also been revised.
