No. 269/2003 - Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2002 (Section 16) (Commencement) Order, 2003 AmendmentsLeasuithe The Minister for Social and Family Affairs, in exercise of the powers conferred on her by section 17 of the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2002 (No. 8 of 2002), hereby orders as follows: Citation. 1. This Order may be cited as the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2002 (Section 16) (Commencement) Order, 2003. Commencement. 2. Section 16 of the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2002 , in so far as it relates to Item 4 of Part 4, Item 1 of Part 7 and Item 3 of Part 8 of the Schedule to the said Act, comes into operation on 1 July 2003. EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.) This order provides for the commencement of section 16 of the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2002 , in so far as it relates to Item 4 of Part 4, Item 1 of Part 7 and Item 3 of Part 8 of the Schedule to the Act, with effect from 1 July 2003. These items provide for amendments to the Births and Deaths (Ireland) Act, 1863, the Marriages (Ireland) Act, 1844 and the Registration of Marriages (Ireland) Act, 1863 and are designed to facilitate electronic registration of births, deaths and marriages in Ireland and electronic production of certificates. The new sections to be inserted in the relevant Acts relate to the keeping of registers, the reproduction of certified copies of entries made in the registers and the use of such copies in court proceedings.
