EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (NAMES AND LABELLING OF TEXTILE PRODUCTS) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS 2005. I, MICHEÁL MARTIN, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act 1972 ( No. 27 of 1972 ), for the purpose of giving effect to Commission Directive 2004/34/EC of 23 March 20041 , hereby make the following regulations: 1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Names and Labelling of Textile Products (Amendment) Regulations 2005. 2. In these Regulations, “Principal Regulations” means the European Communities (Names and Labelling of Textile Products) Regulations 1998 ( S.I. No. 245 of 1998 ). 3. Regulation 2 of the Principal Regulations is amended in the definition of “the Directive”, by inserting after “as amended by Commission Directive No. 97/37/EC of 19 June 1997” the following: “and Commission Directive No. 2004/34/EC of 23 March 2004”. (This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.) Labelling of textiles is governed by EU Directive 96/74/EC which was transposed by European Communities (Names and Labelling of Textile Products) Regulations 1998 ( S.I. No. 245 of 1998 ). This Directive was amended by the EU Directive 2004/34/EC which provides for the addition to the Annex of the Directive of a new man made textile, polylactide. 1 OJ No. L89, 26.3.2004, p. 35.
