No. 108 of 2007 Order entitled Economic and Monetary Union Act 1998 (Design of Coins) (Amendment) Order 2007 Made by the Minister for Finance S.I. No. 108 of 2007 Economic and Monetary Union Act 1998 (Design of Coins) (Amendment) Order 2007 WHEREAS the Economic and Monetary Union Act 1998 (Design of Coins) (No 2) Order 2001 (S.I. No. 347 of 2001) sets out the design of coins denominated in euro and cent to be issued by the Minister for Finance; WHEREAS it has been agreed by the participating Member States to vary the impression on the common face of each of coins of the denominations two euro, one euro, fifty cent, twenty cent, and ten cent; NOW I, Brian Cowen, Minister for Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 11 of the Economic and Monetary Union Act 1998 (No. 38 of 1998), hereby order as follows: 1. This Order may be cited as the Economic and Monetary Union Act 1998 (Design of Coins) (Amendment) Order 2007. 2. In this Order, “Principal Order” means the Economic and Monetary Union Act 1998 (Design of Coins) (No. 2) Order 2001(S.I. No. 347 of 2001). 3. The Principal Order is amended- (
  4. a)in Article 3 by the deletion of “and the reverse impression shall be as specified in the Schedule to this Order”, (
  5. b)by the insertion after Article 3 of the following Articles: “3A. Other than a coin to which Article 3B refers, the reverse impression of a coin shall be as specified in Schedule 1 to this Order. 3B. The reverse impression of a coin which is struck in respect of the year 2007 and subsequent years shall be as specified in Schedule 2 to this Order.”, (
  6. c)by the renumbering of the Schedule to that Order as Schedule 1, and (
  7. d)by the insertion after Schedule 1 (renumbered by paragraph (c)) of the matter in the Schedule to this Order as Schedule 2 to the Principal Order. SCHEDULE “SCHEDULE 2 Coins of denomination 1 cent, 2 cent and 5 cent On the 1 cent, 2 cent and 5 cent coins, the numeral, representing the value of the coin, appears on the left hand side of the common face. Horizontally, to the upper right of the numeral, appear the words “EURO CENT”, the latter placed below the former. Below the numeral, six straight lines run diagonally between the lower left hand side and the upper right hand side of the face. There are twelve stars superimposed on these lines, one just before the ends of each line. On the lower right hand side of the face, the globe is superimposed on the mid-section of these lines. The European Union is highlighted on the globe. Coins of Denomination 10 cent, 20 cent and 50 cent On the 10-cent, 20-cent and 50-cent coins, the numeral, representing the value of the coin, appears on the right-hand side of the common face. Horizontally, below the numeral, appear the words ‘EURO CENT’, the latter placed below the former. The word ‘CENT’ is written in bigger letters with a major capital ‘C’. Six straight lines run vertically between the lower and upper left hand side of the face. 12 stars are superimposed on these lines, one just before the two ends of each line. Superimposed on the mid- and upper section of these lines, the European continent is represented. The initials ‘LL’ of the engraver appear between the numeral and the edge on the right-hand side of the coin. Coins of Denomination 1 euro and 2 euro On the 1-euro and the 2-euro coins, the numeral, representing the value of the coin, appears on the left hand side of the common face. Six straight lines run vertically between the lower and upper right-hand side of the face. 12 stars are superimposed on these lines, one just before the two ends of each line. The European continent is represented on the right-hand side of the face. The right-hand part of the representation is superimposed on the mid-section of the lines. The word ‘EURO’ is superimposed horizontally across the middle of the right-hand side of the face. Under the ‘O’ of EURO, the initials ‘LL’ of the engraver appear near the right-hand edge of the coin.”. Given under my Official Seal, 7 March 2007. Brian Cowen Minister for Finance.
