I, DERMOT AHERN, Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 3 and 18

(2)of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act 1956 (No. 26 of 1956), and with the consent of the Minister for Finance, hereby make the following regulations: 1.
(1)These Regulations may be cited as the Irish Nationality and Citizenship (Fees) Regulations 2008.
(2)These Regulations shall come into operation on 1st August
  2. The Irish Nationality and Citizenship Regulations 1956 ( S.I. No. 216 of 1956 ) are amended by the substitution of the following Regulation for Regulation 14 (as amended by the Irish Nationality and Citizenship (Fees) Regulations 1996 ( S.I. No. 291 of 1996 )): “14.
(1)Subject to paragraph
(2), the following fees shall be paid by the applicant on the issue of a certificate of naturalisation: (
  1. a)where the application is made on behalf of a minor, a fee of €200.00; (
  2. b)where the application is made by a widow or widower whose spouse was, immediately before death, an Irish citizen, and who has not, subsequent to the spouse’s death, become a naturalised citizen of a state other than the State, a fee of €200.00; (
  3. c)in the case of all other applications, a fee of €950.00.
(2)Notwithstanding paragraph
(1), the fee payable under subparagraph (a), (
  1. b)or (
  2. c)of that paragraph shall be nil, if the application for the certificate concerned is made by or on behalf of a refugee or stateless person referred to in section 16(
  3. g)(inserted by section 5 of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act 1986 (No. 23 of 1986)) of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act 1956 (No. 26 of 1956), or by or on behalf of a programme refugee within the meaning of section 24
(1)of the Refugee Act 1996 (No. 17 of 1996).”. 3. The following Regulations are revoked: (
  1. a)the Irish Nationality and Citizenship (Fees) Regulations 1993 ( S.I. No. 89 of 1993 ), and (
  2. b)the Irish Nationality and Citizenship (Fees) Regulations 1996. The Minister for Finance consents to the making of the foregoing Regulations.
