I, BRENDAN SMITH, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 3 of the European Communities Act 1972 (No. 27 of 1972) and for the purpose of giving effect to Council Directive No. 2008/71/EC of 15 July 2008 1 , hereby make the following regulations:— 1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Identification and registration of pigs) Regulations 2008. 2. A reference in any enactment to a Directive repealed by Article 11 of Council Directive No. 2008/71/EC of 15 July 2008 (“Codified Directive”), or to a provision of a Directive repealed by that Article, is construed and has effect as if the reference is a reference to the Codified Directive or to the equivalent provision of the Codified Directive and is to be read in accordance with the correlation table set out in Annex II of the Codified Directive. 3. Nothing in these Regulations purports to create a criminal offence, or to revive criminal proceedings, under Regulations to which Regulation 2 refers, in respect of an event that occurred before the making of these Regulations.
